Red Flags: How to Spot an Untrustworthy Jet Broker

By Starr Luxury Jets ·

The clearest warning signs of an unreliable private jet broker are refusing to name the operator, quoting prices that shift without explanation, pressuring you to pay quickly, and providing no written terms. Any one of them is reason to slow down.

No operator or aircraft named

If a broker will only say "a light jet" and cannot name the operator or aircraft type at quote stage, you have no way to check who is actually flying you.

Vague or shifting pricing

A price that changes each time you ask, or a total with no breakdown, makes comparison impossible and usually hides extras.

Pressure to pay immediately

Urgency is sometimes genuine for a scarce aircraft, but pressure combined with missing paperwork is not.

No written terms or unverifiable credentials

Booking terms, cancellation policy and operator details belong in writing before payment. Testimonials that cannot be traced anywhere independent are worth little.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal for a broker to ask for a deposit before confirming?

Payment terms vary, but the deposit conditions and refund position should be written down before you transfer anything.

How can I check that an operator's licence is real?

Ask for the Air Operator's Certificate details and the issuing authority, then verify with that authority directly.

What should be in a booking contract?

Aircraft and operator, route and timings, total price with itemised extras, payment schedule, and the cancellation and change policy.

Should I be wary of prices that seem too low?

Yes. An unusually low quote often excludes positioning, landing fees or de icing that reappear later.
